Throughout its unique offer, Mahatsara features creations by artists, designers and craftsmen of Southern Africa, by exploring their ethnic inspiration and their interest for contemporary design, all while respecting the principles of fair trade.Inside the superb space in the heart of Paris
, opened, conceived and created by Catherine de La Poype, Christophe Hillé and Pierre-Emmanuel Chartron, these three Africa passionates distribute and develop the exportation of the remarkable savoir-faire, of men and women who, on one hand perpetuate and revitalize ancestral traditional techniques, and on the other hand lead their craft towards contemporary design creations.
All the products come from organizations involved in developing employment and education for disadvantaged populations from townships and rural areas.
They all work according to the principles of fair trade
, an approach that Mahatsara is fully committed to.
Mahatsara presents exclusive creations by designer Magda van der Vloed
and textile creations by Yda Walt
and the Forward Group
and Fabric Nation
collectives, as well as ceramists Clementina van der Walt
, Helen Vaughan
and Andile Dyalvane
Mahatsara's philosophy is to establish a long term sustainable partnership with these craftsmen and artists and to contribute thus to the promotion and development of their work.
